Abel Parker Upshur (June 17, 1790 - February 28, 1844) was an American lawyer, judge and politician from Virginia. William Cabell Rives was the son of Robert and Margaret Jordan (Cabell) Rives. He was educated at Hampden-Sydney College and at the College of William and Mary where he graduated in 1809.
